Visiphor’s Facial Recognition (FR) technology automates the process of recognizing an individual based on their unique physical characteristics. In other words, the process of identification is computerized using mathematical interpretations of a facial image. The numbers involved, called encode strings, provide the foundation for automated comparison. In fact, when used in properly regulated situations, the technology is so powerful that it can actually be superior to human recognition. Whereas humans almost always rely on context to identify an individual (e.g. clothing, accessories, speech, etc), Visiphor’s FR technology relies solely on the encode strings associated with every minute characteristic of a human face. The results may not always be 100%, but the time savings realized in day-to-day police work can lead to a significant return on investment.

Known as the Photo Search module of Visiphor’s InForce Suite, Facial Recognition adds significant value to end users in the justice and law enforcement sectors. The Photo Search module is used to match mugshots or artist sketches to data in image repositories in order to solve cases quicker. Visiphor's FR technology is also available in a standalone Software Development Kit (SDK) where, in past applications, it has been successfully used in combating the production and distribution of pedophiliac imagery.
